Item Details
Description
Moses MellenMassachusetts,1820-1853
Cookie corner top over four drawers supported by rope twist legs with turned feet and shaped apron. Moses Mellen was an active cabinet maker in Boston from 1821 until his retirement in 1853. The Boston City Directories record his shop was located on Brattle Street from 1822 to 1825, the period in which this chest was made per the stamp in the third drawer. Overall it is rare to find any signed and identified period Boston piece of furniture, this chest would be a great addition to any collection.
Mahogany,38 1/2" t x 41" w x 18" d.
Third drawer stamped "Moses Mellen City Market Brattle St. Boston" on bottom.
From the collection of an Uxbridge, Massachusetts estate.
