Description
HERSCHEDE GOTHIC STYLE CARVED OAK GRANDFATHER CLOCK, C. 1900, H 94", W 26", D 16" Cathedral style hand-carved oak case with fenestrated door and side panels. Ornate brass and pewter clock face with revolving moon dial at the top. Nine unmarked tubes that chime Westminster and Whittington. Three brass weights. Clock case marked on the back Hershede Cincinnati 1 83 977. Works marked Herschede Cincinnati 214. Include key wind. Provenance: From a Grosse Ile, MI home. Purchase in 1976 from DuMouchelle Art Gallery, originally from the estate of Rose Kolin. Provenance: Property of a Grosse Ile, MI estate.
Condition
The central finial was cut and reduced 7" in size (clean saw cut), the portion that has been cut off is included. Repairs, chipping and losses to the veneer at the base. 2" loss to the wood at the right side window of the bonnet.
