Protected Landscape
Colored pencil and ink on paper, signed lower right. Surrealist landscape viewed from a balcony, where a robotic, barreled figure stands guard. Pink sky of backing paper visible above the trees cut to frame it. Matted behind glass, brushed metal frame, further information pasted to verso.
About the Artist: Robert Burton Middaugh was born on May 12, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of John Burton and Mae Crooks Middaugh. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He was a draftsman and mapmaker at the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. After which Robert graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964 with a BA in Fine Arts. Robert was a professional artist. Examples of his work as an artist are in several major museums and numerous corporate and private collections. He was curator of the art collection of the First National Bank of Chicago from 1971 to1983. Robert was archivist for the City of Chicago Park District from 1986 until his retirement.
