A South German light burgonet with etched decoration, circa 1580
The skull forged in two pieces, with a high, roped comb. The iron plume socket riveted at the nape, original iron lining rivets. The tapering peak and neck guard forged in one piece, with delicately roped and turned flanges. The neck guard with two suspension holes. The attached cheek pieces opening on a hinge, each with twelve perforations. Exquisite and well preserved decorative etching with fine decorative tendrils and portrait cartouches on both sides of the comb. Minor damage to the flanges of the peak. Height 30 cm.
