Description
Two early wooden piggin buckets in natural finish. The first with stave construction and tree branch straps - the carved numbers on the base reads " S 1856" - possibly the date of construction, though it does look older than the date. The top strap slightly loose, but overall very good condition - 13 1/4"H x 9 1/4"W; the second, all hand carved and dug from 1 piece of wood with a separate chamfered base - several small expansion cracks, stabilized insect holes, and overall very good condition, probably 18th century - measures 8"H x 7 1/2:D x 6 1/2"W. Provenance: From the Doris and Jerry Soldner collection, Lake Carmel NY (formally of Kingston NY).
