Description
Two swing handle baskets. The first a primitive field basket with ears that are attached to the inside of basket and having a criss-cross pattern double wrapped rim - the star shaped base is tied together with a round tin button - the basket is in very good condition with no splint breaks, late 19th century - measures 15 3/4" diameter x 12"H (to top of ears); the second, a Taughkanic swing handle basket with pushed up bottom - a noticeable break in the exterior horizontal rim where it meets the ear, and several small splint breaks along the bottom edge, else good condition, late 19th century - measures 11 3/4" diameter x 7 3/4"H to top of ears. Provenance: From the Doris and Jerry Soldner collection, Lake Carmel NY (formally of Kingston NY).
