Description
**First Time At Auction**
North Africa, Morocco, Mesolithic Period, ca. 15000 BCE (17,000 BP). A large cutting tool knapped from a creamy warm gray and mottled pink chert, crafted by ancient hunter-gatherers who inhabited the Sahara when it was a hospitable savannah climate. The bifacial blade is shaped into an elongated form, with convex faces, a rounded tip, and a straight butt end. An acutely angled cutting edge that encircles the perimeter to the rounded tip. Evidence suggests these humans even developed small mines to quarry stones for such tools! This is a wonderful reminder of humankind's modest technological beginnings! Size: 6.75" L x 2.75" W (17.1 cm x 7 cm)
Provenance: private Superior, Colorado, USA collection
