Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Jalisco, or Nayarit culture, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fine set of two cylindrical pottery ear spools with flared rims and a tapering midsection, all highly-burnished and colored with a dark pigment. Each ear spool displays a trio of incised triangular forms, perhaps representative of mountains, each with a small interior 'X' symbol and enclosed by pairs of concentric horizontal striations. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 0.75" W x 1.2" H (1.9 cm x 3 cm).
Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection, acquired by descent from the owner's father, collection amassed between 1950-1990

Condition
One ear spool repaired from several large pieces. Both items have minor abrasions to bodies and rims, with light softening to some incised details, and light fading to original pigmentation. Light earthen deposits within some incised areas.
