Ancient Near East, Sumer, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A fine necklace formed from dozens of small faience and stone beads. The beads are shaped in spherical, cylindrical, ovoid, and rectangular forms, with some exhibiting faint traces of original pigmentation, and others with faint rainbow-hued iridescence. Strung in modern times and capped with a gold-filled loop and lobster clasp combo, this is a lovely and wearable example of ancient fashion meets modern stylization! Size (necklace): 22.75" L (57.8 cm); size (largest bead): 0.75" L (1.9 cm).
Provenance: private Dallas, Texas, USA collection, via descent, acquired in Greece, Turkey, and Iran from the 1950s to 1970s while stationed as diplomats

Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Stone and faience beads are ancient, and stringing and gold-filled components are modern. Minor nicks and abrasions to some beads, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Light earthen deposits throughout.
