Description
Pair of late 19th century Bouillotte lamps.
Gilt bronze. Pleated fabric shade. Opaline crystal lights.
Measurements: 78 x 40 cm.
A Bouillotte lamp is a table lamp that generally consists of two to four supports for candles (on this occasion three), which emerge from a moulded knot or macalla. These supports extend from the core of the lamp to form, in essence, a candelabra. Originally this typology was created to accompany the card game of the same name, invented in France in the 18th century. The lampshades of this pair of lamps are made of blue pleated fabric. On other occasions the lampshades were metallic, accommodating the heat of the candles inside.
