Description
attributed to FRIEDRICH ROTHROCK 1793 - 1800. A phenomenal example of early piedmont North Carolina redware that has provenance dating back nearly 65 years. This amazing dirt dish has an eye-appealing earthenware slip with a yellow, green, & brown tulip decoration/motif. And other slip trail additions as pictured. This pottery gem was part of the Dr. Donald & Mrs. Shelley collection sold at a special Pook & Pook Auction (PA) in April 2007. This couple had purchased in 1958 from the Walter Himmelreich collection at Pennypacker Auction. Stands 11.75" by 2.25". Originally attributed to the Moravian potters due to attribution cited in the Bivens book on that pottery tradition.
Condition
For more than 15 years, likely century or more, there has been a sealed 9" hairline that be seen in our pictures & on the Pook & Pook website. Otherwise excellent condition & normal ware.
