Item Details
Description

A high-quality South American Peruvian figural hand-modeled ceramic stirrup spout vessel bottle. The vessel is made in the shape of a sitting man, probably a priest wearing a hand-modeled headdress and a chest accessory with a hand-carved heads pattern. These figurines were commonly depicted in Moche art. They are believed to have been emblematic of rank or profession. The stirrup spout vessel so named for the similarity of the spout form to that of a riding saddle stirrup was a much-favored bottle shape in Pre-Columbian Peru. The stirrup spout was used on ceramic vessels in northern Peru for about twenty-five hundred years. The human figure appeared among them in many roles and guises. Antique Pre-Columbian Ceramic Vessels, Table Ware, Home Decor, and Collectibles.

Dimensions: 7 3/4" in Tall. All measurements are approximate.
