Charles Beckendorf (1930-1996), Two mourning doves, 1973. hand watercolor on paper. image: 8 x 10", frame: 12 x 15". from a series of 75 prints hand-colored for President Lyndon B. Johnson, completed just before his death.

Provenance: An Austin, Texas collection

Charles Beckendorf grew up in Mathis, Texas. Charles enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War Conflict. A few years after Charles left the Air Force, his family moved to Austin, and enrolled in the University of Texas where he earned a Fine Arts Degree. In 1965, the Beckendorfs moved to the Texas Hill Country near Fredericksburg.
