Japanese Amida Nyorai Of Carved And Gilt Wood With Lotus Base. Of the Early Muromachi Period (1392-1568) style and likely of mid 16th century; Exquisite example of the style, a gracefully carved Buddha standing with his hands forming the Amida raigo-in mudra, a serene face and downcast eyes with stone or glass inset in the forehead below the tightly coiled hair with amber stone or glass inset at the base of the ushnisha. The figure with its finely carved pleats stands attached with a short peg on a separate wood base carved with intricately opening lotus petals above a pedestal of various finely detailed levels with small brass accents on the bottom above low carved feet. The base has a partially flat back. The entire work has remnants of gilt on the robe and base.
