Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A fine pottery figure shown standing atop short legs with arms bent inwards and hands resting on belly. Dressed in a towering headdress and beaded necklace, the ancient figure displays a large head with target-motif eyes, a pinched nose, a rectangular mouth, and a round chin, all flanked by a pair of projecting ears. Black and beige pigments adorn the figure's red terracotta surface. Note the artist's careful attention to detail as present in the delineated fingers and toes, as well as the articulated nipples and navel. Size: 4.7" W x 7.3" H (11.9 cm x 18.5 cm)
