Description
Beautiful rare sacred cow blanket from the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, adorned with symbolic images of birds and medallions, traditional folk art icons representing creation (flowers offer blessings in fertility and the shisha embroidery around the small round mirrors signify good fortune). Such textiles were used to decorate the holy cows during special occasions such as weddings and festivals. The triangle at the top would have sat on the cow's hump. India, mid 20th c. Size: 64'' x 56'' (163 x 142 cm).
