This example is a fine condition Model 1850 Foot Officer-s Sword in tight, solid, honest shape. The ray skin and wire grip is in excellent condition. The brass guard and furniture on the scabbard show a beautiful, even patina and generous traces of gilt. There is a large etched panel on the blade with scroll engraving and a large spread-eagle. This exhibits 90% of the original mint factory luster and frosting. The other side of the blade has large -US- letters. The 32 inch blade bears the Clauberg maker-s marking. Scabbard is tight and solid with a seam opening on the back side. This does not affect the strength of the sheath in the least. A very fine example of a combat officer-s sword.
