Description
A Hepplewhite sideboard/desk from the Halifax region in original undisturbed grained paint with five-drawers, tapered legs, and an arched knee hole. The top has a large faux tiger maple rectangle framed in a faux mahogany border. The drawers are also in faux tiger maple while the frame and legs are in the dark mahogany grained paint. Original pulls. The drawer bears a stamp indicating inclusion in the Country Heritage Loan Exhibition at Montgomery Mills in Toronto in the 1970s; illustrated in "Canadian Country Furniture 1675-1950" by Michael Bird, page 118 and in "The Early Furniture of Ontario and the Atlantic Provinces" by Henry and Barbara Dobson, plate 49.
