Description
An early, cylindrical traveller's trunk with brass studded design, leather trim and iron bail handles. The initials EW appear on the top within a double-rimmed oval of brass tacks. The inside of the lid has a paper label marked "Montreal". Good condition with some minor imperfections and some missing tacks. Some missing tacks, hinges broken and leather replacements. Quebec, late 18th Century. Subject to CITES restrictions. FRANCAIS: Coffre-bahut avec punaises en laiton, garniture en cuir et poignées en fer. Double cercle ovale en punaises sur le dessus avec les initiales EW au centre. Étiquette intérieur marquée "Montréal". Bonne condition, quelques imperfections mineures, quelques punaises manquantes, pentures brisées remplacé par du cuir. Qué., fin 18e siècle. Restrictions CITES peuvent s'appliquer. 13" x 24" x 13".Further research indicates: cylinder shaped trunk, Montreal with name to interior. (Alured Bigelow was born in 1796, her father, Joseph Bigelow, was 29 and her mother, Sarah Higgins, was 29. She died on 24 December 1827, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, at the age of 31".
