Thomas Gray was an 18th-century English poet, who, while living in Cambridge, was regarded as the best English-language poet of his generation. Even after his death, he was regularly associated with Oliver Goldsmith and William Cowper as being one of Englands most iconic 18th-century poets, known as the Graveyard Poets.
This collection of his poems and letters contains full-page photograph-style engravings.

James John Hornby (1826–1909) was an English rower and headmaster of Eton College from 1868 to 1884, of which Thomas Gray was an alumnus. This copy has a handwritten inscription to Sergio Alexandro [C]raddoc Reid, presumably a student matriculating from Eton with a Doctorate of Divinity, dated 1869.
