Description
The Big Fish by Sarkis Sarkisian (1909-1977) is a gouache on paperboard depicting a large teethed fish surrounding by a school of pray. Signed lower right, this is a beatutiful and colorful Sarkaisian piece in fine condition. Unframed, the piece comes in an art binder for easy storage, protection, and travel. Dimensions: 8 inches by 16 inches. Active in Turkey and Michigan, Sarkis was known for his teachings and his incredible landscapes and figures. The uniqueness of the subject of this piece is a stand out for Sarkisian collectors. An immigrant to Michigan at the age of 13, he dedicated his life to teaching and art. His work has been exhibited across the country including Museum Modern of Art in New York, American Art at Rockefeller Center in New York, First Annual Show of Contemporary Art at the Richmond Museum of Art, The Scarab Club, among others. Known for quoting Picasso's style and an under study of John Carrol, Sarkasian was an art influence of his time. Provenance: Obtained at auction in Maine.
