Description
Vintage wool baseball uniform that belonged to John Butorac, 1907-1969. He wore this uniform while playing in the minor leagues for International Falls, Manitoba & Brainard. The #9 indicated which position he played (catcher). Back then the positions were numbered, 1st base #1, 2nd base #2 & so on. He was the captain of the Concordia College, Minnesota Football team, played minor league & inter collegiate hockey. He studied embalming but transferred to the University of Minnesota & graduated with a degree in economics. He was scouted by the St. Louis Cardinals & the New York Yankees. Butorac was very athletic but having entered the service during WWII he received a stomach wound that ended all hopes of major league competition. Butorac is buried in Forest Home Cemetery, Northport, Stevens County Washington.
