Richard Trenkel was one of the most successful private drivers of the post-war period. From 1948 to 1964 he took part almost exclusively in Porsche and VW in around 150 circuit races, mountain races and rallies. In 1952 he was looked after by Walter Glöckler, who built the forerunner of the Porsche 550 for him. With this one-off, he won the German Sports Car Championship in 1953 in the class up to 1100 ccm. The car is known as Glöckler No.5 and is now in the world-famous Prototype Museum.
