18th C. Spanish Wood, Steel, & Brass Flintlock Musket
Item Details
Description
Western Europe, Spain, Spanish Colonial Period, ca. 18th century CE. An attractive, muzzle-loading musket comprised of a hefty, single-piece wooden stock, a lengthy steel barrel, a slender steel ramrod, and a steel flintlock. Lovely brass embellishments adorn the stock and barrel, featuring openwork vegetal designs, as well as a tondo with the right-facing torso of a woman above the trigger. The flintlock (or miquelet) mechanism has an adjustable flint housing behind an articulated striking plate, and the curved trigger is housed within a rectangular guard. Due to its large size and heavy weight, a weapon like this was likely used for hunting. Size: 59.6" L (151.4 cm); barrel: 45" L (114.3 cm); bore: 0.8" W (2 cm)
