Ancient Byzantine Blue-Green Glass Lamp Ca. 5th-10th century A.D. Size 8 1.\/2 inches diameter. 3 1/2 inches high. Large free blown glass lamp of teal blue hues, conical form, which was most likely originally set into a bronze base. wide infolded rim and an open pontil on the interior cone base. A heavy band of exterior surface encrustation, and areas of silvery iridescence around the periphery, with traces of smoke residue on the interior from use. A 5” long stable crack from the rim, otherwise intact. A rare example.Provenance: Ex. Attal private collection, Austin, TX., via family descent from great uncle, acquired 1st quarter 20th century.
