WORLD WAR ONE / WWI SOLDIER-OWNED STERLING SILVER "HAVONE" CIGARETTE CASE WITH MEMENTOS, cigarette case with engraved exterior featuring foliate motifs to corners, top center with "LJE" initials, opens to a gold-washed interior with hinged cigarette holder and reticulated top featuring flowers, "HAVONE", and patent information to sides, one side edge engraved "From my Ruth", together with six postcards and photos of World War One/WWI soldiers, including one of an individual soldier and inscribed "To the dearest girl / Ruth / from her soldier boy / in France / Leo / 1917" to back, a duty assignment pass for Leo J. Eisenstein for Paris, France dated "June 28th 1918", and a military ribbon pin. Cigarette case marked "502 / STERLING". Total weight of case: 5.350 ozt. Circa 1917. Case 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" x 3/8" OA.

Catalogue Note: Leo J. Eisenstein was born on December 19th, 1892 in New York, NY to German immigrant parents Julius and Anna Eisenstein, he had two siblings, Elsie and Jacob. The family lived in Bronx Borough, New York, NY as recorded in 1900 U.S. Federal Census and in Manhattan Borough, New York, NY as recorded in the 1910 U.S. Federal Census. In 1917, Leo enlisted in the U.S. army during World War One on May 6, married Ruth Schumann on May 9 in Manhattan, and left for oversees on May 14. He served in the army until February 20, 1919 and was honorably discharged.
