Description
Russell Sambrook (American, 1891-1956). An original oil painting on canvas. Titled, "Christmas Gift," produced circa 1940. A figural work painted in a Realistic but whimsical style, with human figures in an Antebellum genre scene, created for a magazine cover illustration. Produced in a style evoking the artist's contemporary and fellow Saturday Evening Post contributor, Norman Rockwell. Artist signed to lower right RUSSELL SAMBROOK. Presented in a decorative frame. Accompanied by original framed December 1940 cover of PROGRESSIVE FARMER AND SOUTHERN RURALIST magazine (precursor to "Southern Living," its direct spin off), featuring the work. (Magazine cover measures 11.5" x 8.25"; 13.5" x 10.5" x .25" framed). Work Size: 34.5 x 25 in.
