This is a wonderful piece of late 19th century mechanical music. This is a barrel piano, or sometimes referred to as a Laterna, depending on the country. Giuseppe Turconi was an early fabricator of these instruments and the inside of this example has his label, last dated 1894. This is a bit larger of the portable barrel pianos, with 36 notes and a bell. Needing a tune-up to sound wonderful, and all the stings are marked for the correct note. Condition shows some areas of scuffing, and light age cracks in the wood, but nothing at all that distracts form the overall appearance. The barrel is original and the box plays.
