Gilt Architectural Musical Automaton Clock, c. 1870 France, with two-train movement stamped "Baullier & Fils, Paris, 701", striking hours and halves on bell, silk-thread suspension, 1 ½-inch (3,8 cm) enameled Roman dial in tower of fortress with fine cast details, canons on the ramparts, embrasures, watchtower, rocky outcrop with modeled flora, gatehouse and harbor with moving sea and a three-masted brass vessel, on ebonized base, the reverse with two-air pull-string cylinder musical movement No. 40253 and substantial going-barrel automaton motor causing the ship to roll on the velvet waves, height 19 in. (48 cm) x Width 16 in. (40 cm). With key. A very impressive maritime-themed French automaton clock, in good working order. This clock has three separate functions, 1, the timekeeping function; 2, the movement of the boat, can be controlled by a switch; 3, the music box function, the music box can be controlled by a pull-cord, the music box is strung by a pull wire and controlled by a switch.
