Description
Entitled "Aurora Lake" and signed W. Corwin Chase, '29, in pencil lower margin, the print shows a western mountain landscape with lake and pine trees. Chase, with his brother Waldo, were self-taught artists who studied Japanese printmaking and worked throughout the Northwestern United States in the 1920s-1940s, living in teepees they designed themselves and making images of the wilderness around them. This image is likely Aurora Lake in Alaska. Chase was active with the WPA. Frame: approx. 9 1/2" x 12".Visible Image: approx. 4 3/4" x 6 3/4".Provenance: Estate of Cayce Odom of Charlottesville, VA.
