Description
The central panel with embroidered human figures, chickens, frogs (?) insects and geometric motifs in red, blue, gold gray and pink on natural white ground, flanked by solid and patterned narrow and wide bands in red, indigo, yellow, and rust. The embroidered motifs express the owner's status. Approx. 76" x 36". Provenance: Estate of Cayce Odom of Charlottesville, VA. Acquired in the 1970s by Mr. Odom, who purchased a number of antique Indonesian textiles from Anita E. Spertus and Robert J. Holmgren, authors of "Early Indonesian Textiles from Three Island Cultures", published 1989 in conjunction with the exhibit "Early Indonesian Textiles from Three Island Cultures" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC.
