Dentzel Carousel Horse. Philadelphia: G.A. Dentzel Company, ca. 1900s. Carved outside row wooden stander horse with full mane and carved trappings, saddle and bridle. 69 x 63 x 18”. Restored by artist Lise Liepman. Gustav Dentzel emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1860. Having spent his youth carving carousels for his father, Dentzel began to do the same in the U.S. and found such great success that he opened the G.A. Dentzel Company in 1867. Upon his death in 1909 his son William took over, and the business continued to operate until 1928. From carousel at the House on the Rock in Spring Green, WI. Third party transportation required.
