Roland Clark is known for his oiling paintings of sporting scenes and wildlife. He was raised in the marshlands of the Long Island Sound where he hunted waterfowl and had the opportunity to study under J. Carroll Beckwith at the Art Students League. By the suggestion of art dealer Philip Suval, Clark began experimenting with drypoint – which soon became his principal medium. Clark alternated time in his studio with extensive traveling on hunting and shooting trips. Clark went on to publish several books discussing his experiences and incorporating his artwork.
