Description
Japanese Woodblock Print, 1950s, published by Kyoto Hanga-In
SIZE IN INCHES: oban, 16 x 11.25 inches
COMMENTS: The blocks for this print, and many other Kyoto Hanga-In published prints no longer exist. Due to the poor economic conditions in Kyoto after WWII the publisher could not afford new cherry blocks for each new print, so it was the custom to plane down the blocks from a previously published print and reusing the blocks for the new print.
YURIMOTO KEIKO (1906-?) was born in Kyoto. She studied Nihonga under Uemura Shoen and Nishiyama Sosho. Her favorite subject was "Ohara-me" or female occupations. She was the daughter of the talented bijin-ga artist Nakamura Daizaburo.
