Description
(1913 - 1994) 37th President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974. Nixon’s second term ended early, when he became the only president to resign from office, following the Watergate scandal. T.L.S. ‘R N’ as President on White House letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Washington, Jan. 29, 1973, to Representative Sam Devine. In this letter, Nixon mentions a radio speech he made on Sunday before sending his annual budget message to Congress. He writes, in part: ‘… Unless we want another dangerous inflationary spiral, we face a choice: either to hold the line on spending at the levels I have recommended, or to raise taxes.’ Lightly toned, slight paperclip indentation on top margin, else fine.
