Born in New York, Paul Shimon (1919 - 2011) was both an accomplished artist and composer.
Considered by some to be an early Outsider Artist, Shimon studied at the Art Students League of New York and with W.A. Clark Prize recipient Jean Louis Liberte (1896 - 1965).
A pioneer of abstract Judaica, the influence of his studies with Jean Louis Liberte together with that of his sephardic heritage is often apparent in Shimon’s artwork.
Shimon was listed amongst the Who Was Who in American Art, the reference book of cultural life in the United States.

Paul Shimon was an early member of the non-profit New York Artists Equity Association, an organization dedicated to advancing legislation to protect the legal rights of visual artists.
Paul was married to Lucille “Libby” Shimon, who passed in March of 2007. Four years later, in October of 2011, Paul Shimon died at the age of 92. He and his wife Libby are survived by their four children; Benjamin, Judith, Charles and Hilary.
