American, possibly Pennsylvania or Valley of Virginia, 19th c.; walnut and pine portable lap desk, having a three-quarter pierced gallery rail, fall front lid inlaid with marquetry maritime lighthouse scene, the concealed interior fitted with multiple compartments and pin cushions. William Word Antiques label to the underside but otherwise unmarked. Provenance: From the Estate of a prominent Atlanta businessman. Approx. overall, h. 7.5", w. 18.5", d. 11.25".

Shrinkage to inlay; interior compartment lids are swelled causing the lid not to close correctly; lower inner compartment lid is detached; wear to writing surface; not all smaller lids sit correctly with some knobs loose; key is not
