In very good condition.

Bound in the original gilt-stamped vellum, top edge gilt. Covers bowed and soiled, edges worn through, BOTTOM TWO INCHES OF SPINE GONE. Front endpapers dusty and marginally worn, else INTERNALLY VERY GOOD. Loosely inserted: calling card of Mr. Oliver Burr James inscribed “To his godson, a Merry Xmas & Happy New Yr.”

Internally very good; orig. cloth slightly dust-soiled. Autograph ownership inscriptions “Daisy Hitch” and “William A. Rockefeller Nov 1933 (through Brentano’s, out of print)” on front endpaper. Pasted to front paste-down endpaper is a fragment of the wrapping paper (with clever original water-color illustration captioned “Stop and Wait until Christmas”) in which this volume might have been first presented (to Daisy Hitch?).
