Description
This is an antique serving spoon with an uncommon design in the style of the German Secessionists (sometimes known as the Jugendstil, or Art Nouveau). The spoon is superbly crafted in 800 silver with a bold figural handle crowned with a lovely young woman with cropped hair, wearing a butterfly headband. The handle is further decorated with mysterious symbols including a knight in armor, a glove, and what may be a riding crop. The bowl is engraved with a delicate grape and vine motif surrounded by a grape and leaf border. Hallmarked as German 800 silver with a maker's mark of B&F or B&L (please see our images). We are so far unable to identify the maker. A striking addition to any collection.
