OPERA: Victor Maurel (1848-1923) French Baritone, created the role of Iago in Otello (1887) and the title role of Falstaff (1893) at La Scala, Milan, the final two operatic masterpieces by Giuseppe Verdi. D.S., Vor. Maurel, one page, oblong 8vo, Covent Garden, London, 2nd July 1874, in French. The partially printed document, completed in an unidentified hand, is a receipt issued by the Royal Italian Opera in which Maurel acknowledges receipt of a payment of £200 from Frederick Gye. Signed by Maurel at the foot across a one penny inland revenue stamp; Claudia Muzio (1889-1936) Italian Soprano. Fine fountain pen ink signature and date, Montevideo, 1934, in her hand on a page removed from an autograph album. Some very light, extremely minor creasing, VG, 2
