Rare Pair of Davenport Glazed Ironstone Fruit Coolers, c.1800, each with ice pails, coolers, liners, collars and covers, of baluster form decorated in an Imari pattern with cranes in a walled garden, with large branches of blooming chrysanthemums hand painted and embellished with gilding, the bodies applied with open mouth creature mask handles in cobalt and gilding, with interior coolers similarly decorated, the collars with scroll handles, the flat covers with cobalt blue glazed dragon handles. Stamped to bases, collars and covers with Davenport Stone China mark in blue. Dimensions: 12 in.h. x 9 in.w. Condition: One liner professionally restored to probable break at rim and to cover hairline, with overpainting to exterior and rim and to bird figure and thumbpiece at interior rim, with flaking of restoration material. 2nd liner also with professional restoration to probable break at rim, with overpaint to floral design at interior rim, one collar with small chip to underside, otherwise in very good condition with expected minor wear to gilding.
