Pair of Continental Silverplate Candlesticks
19th century, of rounded square section, the standard with a palm tree at each corner, the base with a lion confronting a serpent at each corner, each serpent's tail coiled around an acanthus scroll foot, surmounted by a lotus-form nozzle with lobed drip pan and detachable candlesocket.

Condition
**In generally good condition, with a few scattered bumps and scratches, including a short, shallow dent on one basal edge, but no significant damage noted. Some loss to the silvering on the highest relief of the knops, feet and lion's faces. No maker's or manufacturer's mark. Plaster-filled with worn felt on the undersides. An attractive, unusual pair.
