A Qajar bone-hilted steel dagger (jambiyya)
Persia, 19th Century
the double-edged watered-steel blade of curved form, chiselled and decorated in gold overlay to the forte with a cartouche containing quadrupeds in combat on a ground of floral interlace, the waisted hilt carved with rulers and attendants, the wood scabbard clad in Kashmiri woven wool with possibly later steel mounts decorated in gold overlay with pseudo inscriptions and vegetal motifs, fitted velvet case
