BIOGRAPHY:
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Arvid Nyholm studied theatrical painting in Andreas Brolin's theatrical painting studio in Stockholm in 1887 along with Henry Reuterdahl, then as a colleague of Birger Sandzen studied at the Royal Academy from 1889 to 1891, and with Anders Zorn in 1892. Birger Sandzen was a fellow student. He immigrated to New York in 1892, becoming a part of the circle of Swedish-American artists with August Franzen, Charles Friberg, and Henry Reuterdahl. Settling in Chicago in 1903, he helped found the Swedish-American Artists Association and participated in their exhibitions through the 1920's, exhibiting primarily portraits. He showed work in the annual exhibitions of the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Academy of Design, among others.
