Provenance: An Olmos Park, Texas collection
Willie Lucille Reed Rowe was born in Goliad, Texas. She studied with Emily Rutland and graduated from H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College, New Orleans. She was a member of the Louisiana Society of Etchers, Southern Printmakers, New Orleans Art Association, Texas Fine Arts Association, and the Southern States Art League. She began exhibiting in New Orleans in 1938 and was a prize winner in the New Orleans Fiesta Exhibition for five consecutive years. In 1943 she exhibited at the National Academy of Design and the Library of Congress. In 1947 she was honored with a solo exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution. She taught art at McMurray College, Abilene before moving to Fort Stockton where she was the artist in residence at the Annie Riggs Memorial Museum for over twenty years.
