Description
Native American, Oklahoma, McCurtain County, Transitional Paleo to Mississippian, ca. 8000 BCE to 1500 CE (10000 to 500 BP). An attractive gathering of 42 hand-knapped chert, stone, and petrified wood arrowheads boasting hues of sienna, tawny, auburn, caramel, butterscotch, puce, taupe, grey, cream, white, and black. Presenting in triangular, triangular stemmed, lanceolate, auriculate, and triangular basal notch forms, these lovely points exhibit various types, such as Gary, Kent, Carrolton, Baker, Dawson, Shetley, Aux Arc, Arkabutla, Maybon, Dunn, Calf Creek, and Levi. Knapped lithics like these examples are made using percussion, by striking the pieces with other stones- a process that requires training and skill to form the desired shape. Size of largest: 1" W x 2.75" H (2.5 cm x 7 cm); Size of frame: 14.875" W x 10.125" H (37.8 cm x 25.7 cm)

Condition
Mounted in a modern wooden and glass case. Two repaired from two pieces with break lines visible. Minor stable surface fissure to one. Chips to tips of ten heads. Losses to some stems and fins. Nicks to peripheries commensurate with age and use. Otherwise, very nice.
