Fine Japanese Meiji Period Bronze Rooster & Hen. Matched set of cast bronze chickens, one a larger rooster, whose body is a censer, the other a smaller hen. Both are lifelike, with extensive detailing on their plumage, combs, and wattles. The rooster also has a tremendous set of tail feathers and a small hidden opening on his back that can be removed in order to insert incense. Provenance: Artemis Gallery, Louisville, CO, September 14, 2017, Lot 42C; private Rochester, MI collection. Size: 1) 12'' x 10'' x 6'' (30 x 25 x 15 cm); 2) 6'' x 8'' x 4'' (15 x 20 x 10 cm). Property from the Jim and Kit Horne Collection.
