Description

Pair of 19th Century George Baxter (English, 1804-1867) hand tinted prints steel plate "News From Australia" May 10th 1854 and "Australia, News from Home". This pair of prints depicts the correspondence between emigrants to Australia accompanied by natives, and their counterparts back home to what is presumably costal England. Both prints feature a seal reading "Inventor & Patentee G. Baxter, 11 & Southampton Square" and each has their title beneath. "News from Australia" is also signed and dated in the bottom left hand corner of the print "Published May 10th 1854 By G. Baxter Proprietor & Patentee London". Both excellent condition (some yellowing), minor knick to wood frame on "News From Australia". Both art measure 6.75" x 6.25" and frames measure 11.25" x 9.5".
