Epic 1912 Medinah Temple Theater Mural Oil Painting Chicago. Measures 11’ tall X 80’ wide. Title: "Pilgrimage to Mecca". In 3 pieces as taken off the theater front wall above the stage. Mural was commissioned in 1912 for the Medinah Temple building at 600 N. Wabash Chicago, Illinois. Mural removed in December 2000 when building was vacated to make way for Bloomingdale development. Artist: GUSTAVE BRAND born January 23, 1863 at Parchim Germany. Residence: 3647 Prairie Avenue, Chicago, Illinois since 189. He was a designer and decorator (painter of murals) having his business address at 1428 Michigan Avenue, Chicago Illinois. He painted murals at Chicago theaters and public buildings. In 1934 he was chairman of the Chicago Art Committee. Mural suffered minor paint loss and can be easily restored.. Canvas is still supple and can be rolled for transportation.
