Description
Vintage or antique ikat shroud, also used as wall hangings to demark space for ceremonial events. Bold red and black geometric designs in coarse, hand spun cotton. Celebes Island (Sulawesi) Indonesia. Acquired in the 1970s-1980 by the original owner, who purchased a number of antique Indonesian textiles from Anita E. Spertus and Robert J. Holmgren, authors of "Early Indonesian Textiles from Three Island Cultures", published 1989 in conjunction with the exhibit "Early Indonesian Textiles from Three Island Cultures" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC. Approx. 49 3/4" x 85 1/2".Provenance: Estate of Cayce Odom of Charlottesville, VA.
